The Corps of Engineers issued the first Missouri River run off forecast of the year this week.

Hydraulic Engineer Nicole Shorney says run off into the basin last year was well above normal…

Shorney says their first forecast shows another above normal year for runoff…

Shorney says that can change rapidly depending on mountain snow and lower elevation rain the rest of the year.

In response to that forecast, Hydraulic Engineer Joel Knofczynski says they are releasing more water from Gavins Point Dam near Yankton…

Knofczynski says releases from the other five dams on the system will be adjusted as needed based on upstream rain and snow.
