AMI Joins Coalition In Opposing Proposed OSHA Reporting Rule

The American Meat Institute and nearly 100 other ag groups are opposing a proposed reporting rule from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.   Businesses with 250 employees or more would be required to electronically file with OSHA quarterly injury and illness information in three different forms.  AMI General Counsel Mark Dopp says there’s no guarantee it will improve the safety of the workplace.

Dopp says another problem with OSHA’s proposal is detailed information would be posted on the internet which violates privacy rules.

He says his group submitted comments opposing the proposal.  The comment period has now closed but there’s no specific timeline for when OSHA will provide a final rule.

Dopp says if the proposed rule goes forward the quarterly reporting would result in 1.76 million submissions annually.
