This week the full panel of appellate judges in the D.C. circuit court heard an appeal by meat groups challenging the U.S. Country of Origin Labeling law. American Meat Institute’s Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Mark Dopp says he thought most of the judge’s have problems with allowing the government to compel free speech such as what the meat groups are arguing.
Dopp says he’s not sure how the court will rule going forward but is hoping they’ll be granted the injunction to prevent Country of Origin Labeling from going forward.
The present COOL law requires vendors to list where the animals they sell as meat are born, raised and slaughtered.
