American Soybean Association leaders are working with farmers, companies, state officials and the United Soybean Board to isolate the cause of dicamba related damage to soybean crops. Farmers in several states have reported leaf cupping in fields near Xtend soybeans that were sprayed with dicamba. ASA President Ron Moore says they have a lot of questions, but no answers yet.

He says dicamba is an important herbicide for soybean growers and it’s critical they pinpoint what caused the widespread issues with non-target drift with this weed control system.

Moore says if the problem lies with application issues then all parties need to be educated going forward.

Moore says farmers need and want new modes of action to tackle the ongoing issue of herbicide resistant weeds. At the same time, farmers need assurance that their own and their neighbor’s crops aren’t going to be damaged as a result of normal and label compliant product use.
