A New York Times article claims genetically modified crops offer no significant yield benefit and lead to increased herbicide use. American Soybean Association Board member and Valley Springs, South Dakota farmer Kevin Scott says their conclusion is inaccurate and doesn’t make sense.
He says the Times report is just another non-scientific attack on biotechnology that needs to be challenged.
Scott says the Times reporters cherry picked the information they included in their article.
Monsanto’s Chief Technology officer Rob Fraley also responded to the Times article. He says every farmer is a smart business person and is not going to pay for a technology if they don’t think it provides a major benefit. Fraley says biotech tools have clearly driven enormous yield increases.
