American Soybean Association Opposes SNAP Cut Proposal

American Soybean Association leaders are opposing a Republican proposal that passed the House Budget Committee last week. It would cut spending on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance or SNAP program. ASA Board director and Minnesota grower Bill Gordon says they don’t want to see funding cut to those who really need it like SNAP recipients. He also says his group is against splitting nutrition from the rest of the Ag budget.

He also says it would be dangerous to open up the farm bill by cutting SNAP and would leave agriculture vulnerable to other possible cuts.

Gordon says SNAP has been a good program that takes care of those who desperately need it.

Gordon and other ASA leaders not only want to preserve SNAP and keep the farm bill from being opened up but also want to unify the farm and food communities moving into debate on the 2018 Farm Bill.
