American Soybean Association members are in Washington D.C. this week making hill visits. ASA Board member and Valley Springs farmer Kevin Scott says they’re lobbying efforts focus on trade and the new Farm Bill.
He says ASA members are concerned about China, which represents a third of U.S soybeans exported. Scott says President Trump wants China to come up with a plan to cut $100 billion off the U.S. trade deficit, which is alarming.
Scott says ASA wants Congress to pass a Farm Bill this year and he’s encouraged House Ag Committee Chairman Michael Conaway thinks the measure will move out of committee sometime next month.
Scott says the Farm Bill in the House has been held up by a disagreement between Republicans and Democrats over SNAP or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
