The American Soybean Association has filed comments to the U.S. Trade Representative on the Section 301 tariffs placed on China. ASA President and Iowa grower John Heisdorffer says their message to the USTR is a simple and direct one and that’s get rid of the tariffs in order to solve China’s retaliation which has been costly for U.S. agriculture.
He says both U.S. and Chinese negotiators have been talking in efforts to solve the trade dispute.
Heisdorffer says the uncertainty caused by the tariffs and retaliation has caused uncertainty in the market place and threatened the establishment and expansion of foreign markets for U.S. soybeans.
A slew of tit for tat tariffs between the U.S. and China has led to a 25 percent tariff on soybean imports into China.
