American Soybean Association Eyes South American Competition

The fears for many U.S. growers about losing the Chinese market for soybeans to South America may be coming true. That’s as Argentina is working with China to increase business as they’re expected to harvest 55.9 million metric tons of soybeans this year. American Soybean Association Vice President Bill Gordon says that competition is a concern.

He says the trade war with China and this recent development with South America enhance the need for the U.S. to develop additional markets for agricultural products.

Gordon says the trade discussions have been going well with Japan. He says that is another market the U.S needs to retain but and avoid any market loss from not being in the Comprehensive Trans Pacific Partnership.

Gordon says their first trade priority is getting the USMCA ratified, then inking deals with the European Union and Japan.
