New sodsaver legislation, the American Prairie Conservation Act has been introduced in both houses of Congress. The Senate version is co sponsored by South Dakota’s John Thune and Minnesota’s Amy Klobuchar. Thune says the legislation eliminates an unintended crop insurance incentive to break native sod and protects prairie grasslands.
He says by closing loopholes and applying more effective sodsaver provisions nationwide grasslands will be protected, an unintended crop insurance benefit will be eliminated and taxpayers will save money.
Thune says the savings provided by the legislation is significant with more than $ 50 million saved over ten years.
Kristi Noem and Minnesota Representative Tim Walz.
