American Meat Institute Asks Court For Re Hearing On COOL

The American Meat Institute has requested a rehearing from the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in their challenge of the U.S. Country of Origin Labeling Law. Earlier the group challenged COOL on the basis of the first amendment and lost. Now AMI Vice President and Counsel for Regulatory Affairs Mark Dopp says they want to argue before the court that USDA exceeded its legal authority.
Dopp says they’re asking for a re hearing because the original court opinion was inconsistent.
Dopp says they’re seeking either a hearing before the three judge appeals panel or the entire panel which if granted would involve another En Banc hearing.
