Ambulance Services Lacking Staff

Many rural areas in South Dakota are having a difficult time finding enough people to fully staff their ambulance services. Meetings are being held to try to find some solutions.
Ron Wagner is the fire chief in Tyndall and an EMT. He says they are also seeing those difficult issues.

A group of about forty people connected to emergency services at the state and local level have met a couple of times this spring and summer to try to find solutions. Wagner says the legislature may have to help out.

Wagner says they are looking at changing training rules and staffing requirements to allow more people to get involved.

Wagner says the group plans at least a couple more meetings to see if they can come up with some proposed guidelines.
