The wet weather has been conducive for the more leaf disease pressure this season in corn grown for grain and silage. Mycogen Agronomist Jon Erickson says leaf diseases were not a problem last year, but growers won’t be so lucky this growing season.
He says in Mycogen research studies on silage corn they found if foliar fungicides are sprayed at the optimum development stage it can increase tonnage and provide a great return.
Erickson says the economic threshold for spraying fungicides to treat leaf diseases can vary.
He says growers should be regularly scouting fields for signs of the disease, such as lesions.
