Agriculture Secretary Outlines Aggressive Farm Bill Implementation

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack laid out an aggressive agenda for the implementation of the new farm bill while speaking at this year’s Commodity Classic.  He says they’ll be allowing farmers to update production history during the summer and fall and will publish the final rules for P-L-C and ARC in the fall of 2014… with payments not going out until 2015.  And that is right in line with their expectations for implementing all the farm programs.

He says to help farmers with the difficult choice between the two programs USDA will be dispersing $3 million for training and educational materials at the county level.

Vilsack says they’ll also have sign up for the Dairy Margin Protection Program and supplemental crop insurance coverage options this fall.  However, conservation compliance as a requirement for participating in the crop insurance program won’t begin until 2015.
