U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue is not providing any details about a possible trade compensation program for farmers. The Secretary says USDA has the authority and some additional dollars from Congress to provide relief if needed.
Perdue says the President wants to avoid a full trade war with China and they hope to protect agriculture from additional tariffs.
He says President Trump is holding China accountable to its WTO obligations as they have a history of not playing by the rules.
Perdue says they are actively working on dispute resolution on the 178-percent deposit China announced on U.S. sorghum.
