Agriculture has not been on the agenda of any of the 2016 Presidential candidates. Political analyst Dave Juday with the Juday Group has worked on several Presidential campaigns. He says that makes it tough to predict the farm policy direction of any of the candidates or if they would be good or bad for the industry.
He says the only area any of the candidates has talked about is trade and Republican candidate Donald Trump has had some strong words against immigration policy and current trade agreements.
Washington ag lobbyist David Crow says a Trump Presidency could be a concern for agriculture.
Crow actually thinks agriculture would fair the best if Democrat Hillary Clinton becomes President.
Both agree that the new Farm Bill being written in the next two years will focus more on nutrition and food policy than ever before. So it will be important to have an Administration that understands those issues.
