Ag Processing Incorporated officials are opposing a recent Environmental Protection Agency proposal to reduce the biodiesel requirements of the Renewable Fuel Standard. The EPA’s proposal could reduce the 2018 biodiesel RFS requirement by up to 315 million gallons and the 2019 requirement by over 1 billion gallons from current levels. AGP Vice President of Corporate Relations and Government Affairs Matt Caswell says it’s disappointing the agency is proposing that.
He says the EPA is trying to justify their proposal by the mistaken belief the U.S. biodiesel industry lacks the production capacity to provide 2.1 billion gallons of biodiesel to the market.
Caswell says if the EPA’s proposal stands up and is approved it will cause devastating impacts to the farm and overall economies.
AGP is a major U.S. soybean processor and is owned by 148 local and regional cooperatives representing over 250,000 farmer producers across the United States.
