USDA Undersecretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Ted McKinney’s been leading a trade mission to Colombia this week. He says the FTA the U.S. has with that country has been very successful and there’s a lot of opportunity to grow that market for feed grains and poultry even further.
McKinney was asked about the recent trade flap between President Trump and Mexico over the latest tariffs related to the border issue. He says they’re hoping to get trade restored fully with Mexico.
The Undersecretary says the benchmark trade deal the U.S. has in South and Central America has been with Guatemala, Salvador and Honduras. He says it’s possible with all the participants in this week’s Colombia mission they may get close to matching that.
He says they have 54 businesses, 6 State Directors of Agriculture and 9 Ag groups represented on the trade trip totaling 71 total groups participating.
