Ag Shipping Concerns On Mississippi River During Harvest

Ag Shipping Concerns On Mississippi River During Harvest

Excessive Midwest Rains have caused transportation delays and barge holdups on the Mississippi River during this harvest season. That’s a concern for Mike Steenhoek, Executive Director of the Soy Transportation Coalition. He says it’s not expected to clear up anytime soon.

He says farmers have been facing a number of trade concerns lately with the current tariff war and now trying to get crops to export customers is becoming even more challenging.

Steenhoek says growers now have several decisions to make in dealing with a large crop they’re harvesting.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials estimate that rains may have caused sustained damage last week to the locks and they may not open again until October 18.
