Tuesday, President Obama visited USDA and met with Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack to discuss the details of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement. Vilsack spoke with reporters via conference call and outlined benefits of the deal. He says market access for U.S. beef to Japan will be improved dramatically.
Vilsack says there’s also significant market access improvement for U.S. pork.
He says the TPP deal means that U.S. dairy products will move more easily into Canada.
Vilsack says the trade deal allows for better handling of geographic indicators as it relates to dairy.
Vilsack says within 30 days the full text of the TPP agreement will be published.
