The Senate Agriculture Committee voted to confirm and send to the full Senate their recommendation for Tom Vilsack returning to his old job as U.S. Agriculture Secretary. Committee member and South Dakota Senator John Thune questioned Vilsack about the possibility of reconsidering the implementation of Country of Origin labeling. Vilsack says he’s open to working with Senator Thune on finding ways to reinstate COOL.

Vilsack was also asked about improving market transparency and competitiveness in the nation’s cattle markets.

The Ag Secretary nominee also wants to work with the U.S. Justice Department on any cattle market fairness issues.

Vilsack served as Agriculture Secretary under the Obama administration.
