A working group looking at reforming the Beef Check Off has not come to any consensus. Now, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says the current Beef Check Off needs more funding in it and needs reform. He says he’s heard from several groups concerned about the program and need for some changes.

Vilsack says because of the lack of action by the working group he’s moving forward with a new Beef Check Off plan. Vilsack says he’s hoping this second program will address the need for more funding.

Vilsack says it’s important to promote the beef industry at a time when there’s many export and trade opportunities and as domestic consumption patterns are changing.
