Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says he expects an announcement from EPA soon on the volumetric requirements for biofuels in the Renewable Fuels Standard. The agency proposed lowering the mandated levels for corn and cellulosic ethanol, as well as biodiesel. In response they received thousands of comments during the comment period and Vilsack believes they will be reflected in the final language.
Vilsack says the RFS statute has some challenges because it must accurately gauge the gas consumption of the U.S. consumer.
He says in his discussions with EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy he’s stressed a decision is needed soon because the uncertainty is hurting the market.
