Thursday Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack unveiled new farm bill programs to help farmers better manage their risk. They will choose between the Ag Risk Coverage and Price Loss Risk Coverage programs and sign up for one of those this winter. He says next Monday producers can begin updating their yield history and or reallocate base acres at their local Farm Service Agency offices.
Vilsack say FSA will be able to assist farmers in making their decision on which program to choose and have created on line tools that will allow them to enter information about their operation and see projections about what each program will mean for them under possible future scenarios.
Vilsack says the selection producers make whether it be the ARC or PLC will remain in effect for 2014 through 2018 crop years. The new on line tools are available at fsa.usda.gov/arc-plc.
