Monday, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced details of the trade aid package to help farmers and ranchers hurt by the Trade War. He says implementation will begin right after Labor Day.
USDA Undersecretary for Farm Production and Conservation Bill Northey says the market facilitation program payments under the trade aid package will be calculated by multiplying 50 percent of the producer’s total 2018 actual production by the applicable MPP rate.
He says the initial payment rate for pork will be $ 8 a head and dairy will be 12 cents a hundredweight. Johansson says the trade tariffs have hurt U.S. producers this year and the impacts are expected to go into next year as well.
The Farm Service Agency will be implementing the market facilitation program beginning September 4.
