Ag Groups Win Glyphosate Labeling Court Case In California

A dozen agricultural groups led by the National Association of Wheat Growers have prevailed in a court case in California challenging that state’s proposition 65 labeling requirement for glyphosate. The District Court determined that the label being forced on glyphosate was false and misleading in saying the product was cancer causing. NAWG CEO Chandler Goule says this is a big victory for all of U.S. agriculture.

He says the entire problem with labeling of glyphosate in California originated from a non-elected group in Europe.

Goule says they’re expecting the opponents to appeal this decision but is confident the District Judge’s ruling will hold up.

Judge William Schubb of the California District Court in his decision granted a summary judgement and issued a permanent injunction which means the Plaintiffs including NAWG prevailed under the First Amendment because a compelled false warning label does not directly advance the state’s interest.
