Close to 400 farm, nutrition and conservation organizations have written to Congressional Budget leaders urging them not to make any further cuts in any programs under the jurisdiction of the Senate and House Agriculture Committees. One of those groups is the National Farmers Union. President Roger Johnson says a five year farm bill was completed after three years of hard work that contained $ 23 billion in deficit reduction.
Johnson says it doesn’t make sense for federal budget cutters to continually look at taking funding away from one of the smallest parts of the overall federal budget.
Johnson says budget committee leaders are looking at possibly cutting everything from conservation to crop insurance to renewable energy to nutrition programs., all of which are needed and good programs.
