Ag Groups Ask for Stay on 2015 WOTUS Rule

Ag Groups Ask for Stay on 2015 WOTUS Rule

The American Farm Bureau and a broad coalition of ag industry groups are asking a federal district court in Texas to issue a nationwide stay of the 2015 Waters of the U.S. Rule. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal says when the Supreme Court ruled that the jurisdiction for WOTUS belonged to the district courts, that opened the door for the stay to be lifted.

He says Farm Bureau is also providing input to the Environmental Protection Agency as they rewrite WOTUS.

VanderWal says a new WOTUS rule is needed because if the 2015 Obama-era version is allowed to go into effect it would create serious regulatory problems for agriculture.

Meanwhile, a handful of states and environmental groups are eager to get the original 2015 WOTUS rule implemented.
