Ag Group Officials Want To See NAFTA Renegotiation Completed

Several U.S. farm groups want to see the North American Free Trade Agreement talks completed with a successful deal. That may be hampered by recent comments U.S. President Donald Trump made about Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Minnesota Pork Producers Association President Greg Boerboom is hoping negotiators will be able to get by those remarks and wrap up the pact.

Nebraska Farm Bureau’s Director of National Affairs Jordan Dux says its critical for U.S. agriculture that the NAFTA talks get done and done successfully.

He says NAFTA needs to be completed without having a sunset provision put in it that would just create more uncertainty for U.S. agriculture.

Dux and Boerboom are both hopeful that U.S. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue’s trip to Canada this Friday and his subsequent meeting with Canada’s Ag Minister Lawrence MacAuley will lend more reason to the NAFTA discussions.
