According to last week’s USDA report, grain storage stocks and carry over are running low. Some people are wondering if demand continues at the current pace is there a possibility we could run out of corn and soybeans before next fall’s harvest? Iowa State University Extension Grain Marketing Specialist, Chad Hart believes the markets will prevent that from happening. Both corn and soybeans are in short supply, but Hart says soybeans are in a more critical condition than corn supplies. Hart was asked if farmers encountered yet another year of drought how would that affect the overall grain stocks position? Hart says it would depend on the severity and widespread conditions of the drought. He says farmers saw an increase in yield during the last three years of drought. However, fewer acres were harvested.
