The House is scheduled to mark up the Transportation or Highway bill today and it will be widely watched by the ag community. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says it’s important the measure provide funding certainty for this important component of the nation’s infrastructure and our ability to move ag products.

Steenhoek says to better serve ag transportation needs, the legislation should include heavier truck weight limits.

He says by putting in heavier limits, it would be safer for motorists and would also improve wear and tear of the nation’s roads.

The current Transportation bill expires October 29 so the House needs to move quickly to reconcile with a Senate Transportation measure that was passed earlier.
