Late last week House and Senate Ag Committee leaders met in an effort to advance negotiations on a new farm bill. Representatives Mike Conaway and Collin Peterson and Senator Pat Roberts and Debbie Stabenow got together in Washington D.C. House Ag Chairman Mike Conaway is optimistic about how their meeting went even though there’s no firm agreement on any single title of the farm bill.
He says they all agreed they want to move forward with new farm legislation this year.
Conaway doesn’t expect a farm bill vote before the November election but remains hopeful they’ll get the measure done at least during the lame duck Congressional session.
Last week’s meeting of the four leaders was the first face to face meeting since the farm bill expired at the end of September.
