An alliance representing both agricultural and environmental interests working together has released a list of 40 some recommendations to guide federal climate policy. Alliance member Chuck Connor is President and CEO of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives. He says their group’s recommendations focused on cost share for farmers implementing environmental practices, sequestering carbon and improving soil health.
He says their climate change recommendation involves incentivizing farmers to use the proper practices in benefitting the environment.
Connor says their group developed these recommendations prior to the election of Joe Biden as President so its policy driven rather than politically driven. He says however their timing is good in coming forward with these.
The four groups that co-chair this alliance include the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, American Farm Bureau, National Farmers Union and Environmental Defense Fund.
