A coalition of 34 farm and environmental groups led by Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, Land Stewardship Project and Dakota Rural Action want House members to vote against the Farm Bill. ICCI State Policy Director Adam Mason says the House Farm Bill doesn’t do enough for smaller farmers and ranchers and gives too much away to larger producers.
He says funding and programs in the farm bill need to be specifically directed to smaller and medium sized producers.
Mason says they want people to contact their Representatives and encourage them to vote against the farm bill. He says they’re also waiting to see what farm legislation the Senate comes up with.
Mason says it’s important whatever farm bill is passed contains good solid conservation programs with the benefits directed away from the larger farm operators.
