Ag Alliance Monitoring Activist Use of Drones

Self-described activist Will Potter has raised more than $75,000 to fly drones over farms. Potter is targeting large operations which he says are hiding behind ag gag laws. Animal Ag Alliance’s Hannah Thompson says while drones can be used positively on farms and ranches she is also concerned about possible the misuse by activists.

She says activists strive to confuse the general public and their possible use of drones to achieve that goal is disturbing.

Thompson advises farmers and ranchers wishing to protect their operations from activists to post large and visible no trespassing signs and also to apply for a no fly zone for drones near their homes or farms.

Thompson cautions farmers and ranchers not to take drastic steps such as shooting down or damaging a drone over their property as it could lead to legal consequences.
