The American Farmland Trust is working to secure reauthorization of the Land Water Conservation Fund. The organization’s Vice President of Programs John Larson says they’re going through the Senate Appropriation’s process to get that done and are looking for the full authorization of $900 million.

He says the Fund expired on September 30 after being in place for the last fifty years. He says the conservation easements granted through the program have been successful, particularly in the Dakotas.

Larson says there’s also a waiting list of over 800 landowners who want to provide conservation easements and utilize the Land Water Conservation Fund.
