The spread of African Swine Fever in China has led to the formation of the National Swine Disease Research Council. That’s according to Patrick Webb, Director of Swine Health Services for the National Pork Board.
He says the five pork industry groups in the Council are being proactive in addressing the disease concerns of pork producers.
Webb says emergency response plans need to be in place to deal with diseases like ASF or PEDV, as well as other diseases that might emerge.
Webb says, there are no state or federal plans to deal with non-regulatory diseases. He says therefore the Council can step in and create a plan to handle them.
