African flour millers from South Africa, Ghana and Nigeria are visiting several states this week stopping in North Dakota, Minnesota, Kansas and Texas. North Dakota Wheat Commission Marketing Specialist Erica Olson says the group is interested in spring wheat. She says the Nigerian group is anew potential customer as in the past they’ve only looked at winter wheat.
She says the African millers will be in North Dakota this weekend touring some farms and visting with North Dakota’s wheat breeder and stopping by the Northern Plains Crops Institute.
Olson says the advantage North Dakota has with these customers is their spring wheat quality.
The group is in the United States for two weeks and is being hosted by U.S. Wheat Associates.
