Last week, American Farm Bureau Federation Vice President Scott VanderWal met with Canada’s Farm Bureau members at their convention in New Found Land. He says they talked about several issues the two groups share concerns on including the farm bill, regulations producers face and renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
He says farmers in both groups have the same worries about the NAFTA renegotiation and both want to hold onto what’s worked in the agreement in the past.
VanderWal says one area of disagreement in the NAFTA modernization centers around dairy and Canada’s supply management system.
VanderWal says there are more areas the two farm groups agree on than disagree and both are looking forward to successful talks that start on August 16.
