The Government Accountability Office claims advanced biofuels are not likely to get the fuel market penetration the Renewable Fuel Standard predicted. Advanced Biofuels Business Council Executive Director Brooke Coleman says the GAO has peculiar way of looking at the RFS. He says the RFS didn’t predict anything. It didn’t say there’d be 16 billion gallons of biofuels by 2018 but did instill a waivable blending requirement.
He says the GAO needs to look at what the EPA did with the RFS volume levels for Advanced Biofuels for 2017.
Coleman says government agencies and policymakers need to make sure there’s continuity and stability with biofuels and the RFS going forward.
The GAO reached their conclusions with this recent report saying there is a limited production of advanced biofuels for blending and limited potential for expansion by 2022.
