Advanced Biofuels Executive Says RFS Refiner Waiver Problem Still Needs Fixing

A group of 17 Congressional Democrats wrote to the Environmental Protection Agency Administrator voicing concern about the widespread issuance of RFS waivers to refiners. That has caused the biofuels industry a significant amount of demand loss. Advanced Biofuels Business Development Executive Director Brooke Coleman was pleased with the move by the Representatives but says the problem still persists and needs correcting.

He says what’s positive for the biofuels industry is the recent move by President Trump to call for rulemaking to allow year-round use of E15 which helps not only corn ethanol but also second generation biofuels.

Coleman says one of the most important issues his group is working on is getting the EPA to move forward with the eligibility of the next generation of ethanol fuel under the Renewable Fuel Standard.

Coleman says getting those registrations done for cellulosic ethanol would help lessen the U.S. dependence on foreign oil and foreign governments.
