Fall arrives today, and a climate report from the National Weather Service says this summer will be going out as the hottest ever recorded on the planet. Al Dutcher, a climatologist with the University of Nebraska Lincoln Extension, says he’s not yet comfortable saying anything of the sort, as the numbers remain far from final.
While there were many triple-digit days in Nebraska during June and August, Dutcher says July temperatures were much closer to normal.
He says those extremely hot days in June did a lot of damage to the state’s corn crop.
