Activist groups, led by the Humane Society of the United States and Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, are pleased with a District Court ruling last week that challenging the sale of the Pork. The Other White Meat trademarks by the National Pork Producers Council to the National Pork Board. ICCI organizer Jess Mazour says the court also ruled their lawsuit will continue, as they denied NPPC’s motion to dismiss the case.

She says the goal of ICCI and other activist groups with their court challenge, is to prevent corporate entities from profiting at the expense of the environment.

Mazour says checkoff dollars aren’t being used appropriately to benefit producers or the environment.

HSUS, ICCI and other environmental groups brought their lawsuit in 2006 when NPPC sold the Pork. The Other White Meat trademarks to the National Pork Board.
