ACE Wants EPA Leader To Follow The Law On Small Refiner Waivers

The American Coalition for Ethanol is concerned that current EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler may change course this week and approve several small refinery exemptions from the Renewable Fuel Standard. ACE CEO Brian Jennings says because of that they’ve sent a letter to EPA’s Inspector General voicing their concerns.

He says they’re trying to prevent any last minute action of this administration that would cause further damage to the biofuels industry.

Jennings says since the SRE issue surfaced, EPA Administrator Wheeler has said he won’t approve or deny the waivers until the courts rule on the issue. He says now the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to take the case but won’t hear it until this spring. Jennings says the EPA needs to wait for that ruling.

Jennings says the damage to the biofuels industry from the granting of small refinery waivers is close to 5 billion gallons of lost demand from the RFS.
