Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt has been nominated by President Elect Donald Trump as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. And even though Pruitt comes from a state friendly to the oil industry, American Coalition for Ethanol Executive Vice President Brian Jennings advises ethanol proponents not to overreact to the nomination. He says if Pruitt is confirmed he’ll have to represent all interests.
Jennings adds if Pruitt becomes EPA administrator he’ll have to follow Trump’s policy on renewable fuels which he backed during his Presidential campaign.
He says it’s also important to remember that Pruitt has to be confirmed by the Senate so he’s expecting ethanol friendly Senators to question him about his stance on the Renewable Fuel Standard and other biofuel issues.
Pruitt has been a critic in the past of the RFS and has voiced concern over the effects of gasoline blended with more than 10 percent ethanol on fuel systems of vehicles as well as the mandate’s effect on food prices.
