The U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee failed to vote on legislation to lift the Reid Vapor Pressure rule. The RVP prevents the use of E 15 fuel year around. American Coalition for Ethanol Executive Vice President Brian Jennings says that bill needs to be passed so E 15 and higher blends of ethanol can be offered to and used by consumers. He says it’s been tough sledding so far in the Senate committee.
He says they have two avenues they can use to attempt to get the RVP lifted. One is through the Environmental Protection Agency and the other is through Congress.
Jennings says they hope to make headway during the August Congressional recess to push Senators to back the bill that lifts the RVP rule.
Senate bill 517, the measure to lift the RVP is sponsored by Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer.
