Wednesday, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will consider legislation to lift the Reid Vapor Pressure rule that would allow use of E15 during the summer months. The Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act is supported by the American Coalition for Ethanol. Executive Vice President Brian Jennings says it’s their top legislative priority.

He says the RVP is an antiquated rule put in place in 1990 when E10 was the only ethanol fuel on the market. Jennings says that’s changed with the higher blends available, making the regulation obsolete.

Jennings says if the RVP is lifted it will benefit consumers, farmers and ethanol producers.

He says it will be a challenge to get committee passage and will take the leadership of Senators Deb Fischer of Nebraska, Joni Ernst of Iowa and Mike Rounds of South Dakota to get their colleagues to vote for it.
