The Senate Ag Committee held a hearing this week centering on climate change. American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings shared a white paper with the panel on how ethanol and renewable fuels benefit climate change. He says Congress has an opportunity to incentivize farmers to continue what they’re doing in reducing greenhouse gas emissions as part of that process.
He says renewable fuels are already doing a better job in reducing greenhouse gas emissions than is regular gasoline and that reduction number is growing.
Jennings says the Senate Ag Committee should provide assistance to farmers who sequester carbon on their operations.
Senate Ag Committee Chairman Pat Roberts says there’s no silver bullet to battling climate change but it’s important farmers continue voluntary conservation practices and utilize no till farming to improve their environmental footprint.
