It was reported earlier that the EPA was going to reject proposed changes to the point of obligation for complying with the Renewable Fuel Standard away from refiners. However the Agency has yet to make a decision on what they will do with the point of obligation. That could come in two weeks or so. American Coalition for Ethanol Senior Vice President Ron Lamberty says the point of obligation should remain as it is.
The point of obligation is the rule under the RFS where oil companies are required to blend a designated amount of gasoline with ethanol. Lamberty also says the request for the change came from a minority group.
He says that the person who originally requested the change of obligation is a refiner who would benefit from that change.
The EPA is expected to announce their decision on the point of obligation in the next two weeks.
