This week, South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson introduced the Adopt GREET Act, a measure that would require the Environmental Protection Agency to update its greenhouse gas modeling for ethanol and biodiesel. The American Coalition for Ethanol supports the bill. ACE Board Director and Past South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Troy Knecht says they’ve been working on this type of approach for sometime. He says it’ll more accurately reflect the environmental benefits of agriculture and biofuels.
He says this legislation calling for science based determinations has the potential to help move forward the biofuels industry.
Knecht says this legislation along with ground work begun by ACE is some of the most positive developments for the ethanol industry in South Dakota in the past eleven years.
The companion measure to the Adopt GREET Act is being carried by Senators John Thune of South Dakota and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota.
